Carpool Lane Checks

This morning as I was getting on 101 from a carpool on-ramp I noticed a police officer standing by the metering light and thought it was kind of odd. He appeared to be checking vehicles, so I just thought he must be looking for a fugitive. Nope. He was looking for solo riders in the carpool lane. The guy 2 cars ahead of me did not have a rider with him, so the officer waved him over to the side of the road, then proceeded to walk across right in front of the other cars getting on the ramp and pulled out his ticket book as he approached the car he had waved over.

Wow! I didn't know that. I guess that guy is sorry he tried to use the lane then. It was really kind of silly too because it was about 6:30 A.M. and there really wasn't much of a line in the regular metered lane.
