Other weekend news

Other than the car break in, etc. the weekend was fun and relaxing.

We went to an authentic Louisiana crawdad boil. It was tons of fun. For those of you that haven't had the privilege of this experience, it's one not to miss. It starts with a HUGE pot of boiling water (30 gallons heated on an outside propane burner.) Then there are pounds (and I do mean pounds) of spicey spices added. Add to that potatoes, corn, garlic, and sausage that are first put into nylons and then added to the water. After that, there are pounds of crawdads added to the whole mix. Mind you, these crawdads are flown in live from Louisiana - they're like lobsters in that they have to be added to the water alive. After boiling everything for a while, all is dumped out on a newspaper covered table ready for the eating, and the next batch is started. The first batch is the most mild, each subsequent batch gets "hotter" as the previous batches spices are retained, and more are added. There were four batches done on Saturday. The eating of said creatures takes some practice. First you have to break the tails off, then some people suck the juice out of the body, and you finish be peeling the tails and eating them and the claws if they are big enough. Directions also include do not wear contacts that day or the next as your eyes will burn like heck if you put your finger in them after a meal of crawdads, you should also avoid sexual relations as you will realize how sensitive those sensitive parts are, etc. Hopefully that gives you an idea of just how spicey these critters can be. They are delicious though. And if you don't like really spicey food, just make sure you get your fill from the first batch and not the fourth.

Sunday was just a total relaxation day, sat around with my broken ankle elevated, watched a couple of movies, not much else.
